Debutant

Made from sheesham or North Indian rosewood, the Debutant is a rare handcrafted vintage piece produced in the 1950’s. A post-world war 2 India was eager to discard the shackles of industrial brutalism and embraced instead the optimism and elegance of art deco. Art deco was a timely choice for many designers during that period for a people that wanted to express a sense of modernity and progress.

The debutant features rectilinear forms and casual symmetries in its fluted backrest and its fittings relies on lap and dowel joints popularized by craftsmen in the 50’s. A rattan weave seat rest adorns the couch and the accompanying single seaters.
